Kurama is gardening. He was gardening when Sakura went by with the little thing in their mouth that he would later come to realize is Rem. He was still gardening when Rem appeared, no doubt having left Sakura to sunbathe somewhere comfortable and he is still gardening by the time Vash arrives looking for his DTF.

Elbow deep in dirt when he senses the presence of someone approaching. At least it wasn't unexpected, all things considered. The fox turns at the greeting - grabbing a nearby cloth to clean his hands - with a smile that is far too innocent for him to be unaware of Vash's reason to be there.

“Sorry... Rem was just helping with some chores.”

He doesn't sound very sorry, actually he sounds pretty amused. The transparent humor in his expression probably isn't helping his case here, either.
